AKRON

FirstEnergy Corp. is offering education grants for creative classroom projects involving science, technology, engineering and mathematics planned for the 2015-16 school year.

STEM Classroom Grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded for teacher professional-development initiatives and creative and individual classroom projects for grades pre-kindergarten through 12. The grants are available to educators and youth group leaders in communities served by FirstEnergy’s 10 electric operating companies, which includes the Mahoning Valley through Ohio Edison. ‘Start Up 101’ program

YOUNGSTOWN

Jim Cossler, chief executive officer of the Youngstown Business Incubator, will present his “Start Up 101” workshop from 5:30 to 7 p.m. July 16. The 40-minute program will take place at YBI, 241 W. Federal St., and will cover the essentials for a successful startup.

The cost is $15 for general attendants, $10 for technology entrepreneur and $5 for students. Tickets are available until the day of the workshop.

Seminar scheduled

BOARDMAN

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber is hosting a seminar on electrical preventive maintenance. Sponsored by City Machining Technologies, members also will learn about the benefits of lowering workers’ compensation claims, limiting liability, protecting equipment and preventing injury.

The event for prospective and current members is $30 and $20, respectively.

Software-technology program at TCTC

CHAMPION

Trumbull Career & Technical Center’s Adult Training Center is offering a 720-hour software-technology program for potential full-time students. Included in the cost of the program are an iPad, QuickBooks Pro User and Microsoft Office Specialist Certification exam fees.

All classes are from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The program begins Sept. 8.

Dogs on the Run opens in E. Palestine

EAST PALESTINE

Dogs on the Run, 15 S. Market St., a hot-dog stand and ice-cream parlor, had its grand opening Friday.

The restaurant features hot dogs with toppings, hand-dipped ice cream, malts and shakes.

The eatery is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1 to 9 p.m. Sundays.
