YOUNGSTOWN

Biomat USA Inc., a Grifols Co., is opening a plasma donor center July 21 in the former Biotest Plasma Center, 444 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

This will be the company’s 10th in Ohio, and it will employ 25 Ohioans to start with expectations to increase to 40 as the center expands its operations.

Grifols has invested about $1 million in the construction and setup of the 14,500-square-foot facility, the design of which eventually will incorporate new industry technologies including Donor Doc, a donor self-registration platform that helps improve donor-screening efficiency.

Over the next several years, Grifols will ultimately contribute more than $3.5 million each year to the local economy through payroll, donor fees and other operating expenses, the company’s news release says.

Grifols also is looking forward to partner with Youngstown State University and other segments of the local community.
