Pastor appointed at St. Patrick Parish

The Rev. Michael Swierz has been appointed pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Hubbard. This is in addition to his position as president of St. Joseph the Provider School.

Father Swierz is a native of Poland, where he attended Poland Seminary High School.

He also attended St. Gregory’s Seminary in Cincinnati, Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Cincinnati.

He was ordained in 1985 by Bishop James Malone at Holy Family Parish in Poland.

After ordination, he served as parochial vicar of St. Peter Parish in Canton, St. Rose Parish in Girard, Holy Family Parish in Poland and St. Christine Parish.

In 2000, he was appointed pastor of St. Joseph the Provider in Campbell. In 2002, in addition to St. Joseph, he was named administrator of St. Elizabeth Parish, now closed, and St. John the Baptist in Campbell (2002-2008).

In 2011, Father Swierz was appointed president of St. Joseph the Provider School, which was relocated from Campbell to the former St. Anthony School.

Ordination service

Bishop George V. Murry conferred the sacrament of ordination on Deacon Daniel Finnerty on June 20 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St.

The Rev. Finnerty is from Poland and is a member of Holy Family Parish in Poland.

He completed his theological studies at Mount Saint Mary Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The new priest will be assigned as an associate pastor in the Diocese of Youngstown.

Children’s activity

LIBERTY

KIDZ Club takes place Wednesdays at New Life Christian Fellowship, 2088 Tibbetts Wick Road, for children in first through sixth grades.

The activity is scheduled from 5:45 to 8 p.m. with a light dinner, crafts, games and Bible time provided. Parents are welcome to come for dinner at 5:45.

Ongoing study

BOARDMAN

Pastor Shane Russo of Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., is leading an ongoing study at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the parlor on “Living the Questions Curriculum.”

The DVD and book-based program is meant to help people deal with the relevance of Christianity in the 21st century.

Church to observe 91st anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN

New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St., will observe its 91st anniversary during a program at 5 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Todd Johnson and Agape Assembly Church of Warren as special guests.

The theme is “Empowered to Embrace, Embody and Emulate the Mission and Ministry of Christ.”

The program will feature the presentation of new 50-year members, dedication of new memorial bricks for the prayer garden and a special video tribute honoring deceased members.

New Bethel was organized in 1924. Previously, it was located at 125 Manning Ave. and 209 Reserve St.

The late Rev. Lonnie K.A. Simon was called to pastor in 1962 and retired after serving 33 years.

The Rev. Kenneth L. Simon was called in 1995 and continues to serve.

Ground was broken for a new church in 2002; it was dedicated in 2004.
