Ohio issues warnings to boaters, swimmers after heavy rains

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio officials are urging people to avoid fast-moving waters in rivers and streams after a week of steady rain throughout the state.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says in a statement that people should be realistic about their swimming and paddling skills before venturing into rain-swollen rivers, lakes and streams. Rain is in the forecast for the state throughout the weekend.

ODNR says boaters should wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets. And the agency recommends that people check out unfamiliar bodies of water before launching a boat or going into the water.
