A man wanted for failing to appear in municipal court on two separate domestic-violence cases was caught in an East Side home Friday morning after police said he broke into a woman’s home.

Amonte Donaldson, 22, of Willow Court, was booked into the Mahoning County jail on a burglary charge as well as two warrants for failure to appear in court, after he was caught inside a home in the 1400 block of Willow Court.

Police were called to the home about 1:45 a.m. by a woman who said she had been away and when she returned, her door was open and the lights were on inside, and she saw Donaldson in the door waiting for her.

Reports said the woman told police she drove away from the home, and Donaldson chased her on foot. The woman also told police that Donaldson has threatened to kill her, and he punched her earlier this month and was arrested, but never showed up for court.

A check of court records shows that Donaldson was arrested on domestic-violence charges April 15 and June 4, but records do not show if both cases were with the same victim. He skipped a court appearance on both charges June 12, and a warrant was issued for his arrest then.

When police arrived at the woman’s home, they saw Donaldson try to run out the back door, but he stayed inside when he saw police, reports said. Police surrounded the home and then got a key from the woman and approached the door with a police dog.

Reports said the dog handler warned Donaldson that he was sending the dog in and then Donaldson came to the front door and surrendered, reports said.

Reports said the woman gave police permission to search her home, and inside, they found a box with 15 live 9 mm rounds inside.

Donaldson was taken to the Mahoning County jail. Judge Elizabeth Kobly set his bond at $120,000 during his arraignment Friday.
