A Catalina Avenue woman was taken to the Mahoning County jail on a charge of improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle after police found a loaded .32-caliber revolver in a purse in her car Thursday and also seven live .32-caliber rounds.

Reports said Teaira Cleveland, 28, was pulled over about 5:20 p.m. for making an improper turn at Market Street and Lucius Avenue. Cleveland acted very nervous when speaking to police, and she also reached for her purse when she was asked to get out of the car.

Officers asked if they could see her purse, reports said. That is when the gun was found. Reports also said Cleveland also has three open suspensions on her driver’s license.

Wellness Walk set

African-American Male Wellness for Youngstown/Warren’s committee planning for its Wellness Walk at the Covelli Centre on Aug. 15 are at noon on Tuesdays at the Academy of Urban Scholars, Cobbin Towers Building on Fifth Avenue. Participants must enter from the Ford Avenue side of the building. Meeting dates are Tuesday, July 14 and 28, and Aug. 4 and 11.

Park closed for work

The Trumbull County MetroParks is closing Clarence Darrow MetroPark on Educational Highway from July 6-13 for parking-lot maintenance work. The work includes paving and drainage upgrades.

Track meet planned

The Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention Start Talking! track meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. July 11 at the Warren G. Harding High School track and field complex, 860 Elm Road NE.

Check-in for same-day registration will begin at 8:30; 9 a.m. for preregistered runners. Prevention and family activities will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m.

Registration is $10 per child, and those registering by Friday will receive a free T-shirt.

In addition to the track meet, activities will include games, bounce house and face painting.
