Ramp closed

AUSTINTOWN

The Interstate 80 eastbound ramp to state Route 11 southbound will be closed for pavement repairs beginning July 11 through 6 a.m. July 13, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced.

The detour is I-80 eastbound/state Route 11 northbound to Salt Spring Road to I-80 westbound to state Route 11 southbound.

Plane crash

BELOIT

A small-plane crash near the airport here in Smith Township on Friday evening killed the pilot, who was the only person on board, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The patrol got the call at 6:35 p.m. A patrol dispatcher said a representative from the Federal Aviation Administration was on the way to the Tri-City Airport along state Route 165 near West Branch High School to begin the agency’s investigation.

Donations for food

HUBBARD

Hubbard police chaplains of the City Transformation Team presented monetary donations this week to food pantries of Hubbard Christians in Action and St. Vincent de Paul Society in council chambers at the Hubbard administration building.

The funds, the amount of which was not disclosed, represent a surplus of money raised for the Hubbard Police Memorial Monument, which was dedicated May 13.

Pleads not guilty

CORTLAND

Marlon A. Swiggett Sr., 27, of McMyler Street Northwest, pleaded not guilty Friday in Central District Court to robbery, assault and theft after he purportedly fought with store security at the Bazetta Walmart. Bond was set at $30,000.

Bazetta police said Swiggett and Anthony R. Landman, 21, of a different McMyler Street address, were detained in the store security office by security personnel April 20, accused of shoplifting $383 in merchandise. Swiggett purportedly grabbed a female security officer who was in the doorway and threw her into a filing cabinet.

A security guard then wrestled with him, but Swiggett got away, and both males got into a car and drove away. Security officers got the merchandise back. Central District Court issued a warrant for Swiggett’s arrest April 27, and he was arrested Thursday. A Trumbull County grand jury indicted Landman on a robbery charge June 17.

Water meeting set

Trumbull County commissioners will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday to discuss county water and sewer funds in the fifth-floor hearing room at the county Administration Building, 160 High St. NW.
