Austintown Intermediate School celebrated its fifth-grade students’ last day within the school on June 4. In the afternoon, an award ceremony was hosted in the cafeteria to reward students in various categories of success.

The PTO sponsored the event, providing treats for the students toward the end of the ceremony — sending them off from their last day as intermediate students to the middle school.

Mark Bamyots, one of the students at the ceremony, said he was sad this was the last day because he wasn’t going to be able to see his friends, but also said that he was excited for the summer.

Abby Berkenyi, winner of a 5-pound chocolate bar, said she enjoyed getting to spend time with her close friend, Jordan Kosiniski, on this last day of school.

“I like getting to see my friends on our last day,” Berkenyi said.

Carter Cobb, another student and friend of Bamyots, liked the ceremony for a different reason.

“I really like the food,” Cobb said with mouth full of sherbert.

Many PTO members expressed pride in their school and students for a job well done this school year and were excited to send them off onto their new adventure at the middle school.
