Poland Shepherd of the Valley hosted its second Annual Car Show on June 5. The event called for people in the community and residents to come together and either show their classic-styled cars or admire the cars of others.

Elita Cowles, admissions and marketing director of Poland Shepherd of the Valley, started this successful car show event last year.

“As a marketing person I’m supposed to come up with community events and some of our residents are car buffs,” Cowles said. “So I thought, ‘Let’s put on a car show.’”

Although the car show didn’t have judges, it had contests. The contests gave attendees the chance to win in three different categories — Residents’ Choice Award, People’s Choice Award and Staff’s Choice Award.

Cowles said she was happy the residents wanted to be such a big help in volunteering with the event.

“Our residents really enjoy helping me out,” Cowles said. “It’s a good feel-good thing.”

Jim Patrick, a member from the public, brought his Corvette to the car show. Patrick said he liked looking at the other cars and showing his off, as well.

“I’ve always liked cars and I’ve always loved corvettes,” Patrick said.

Resident of Poland Shepherd of the Valley Irene Jacobs said seeing the Chevy’s from the 1950s was her favorite part of the car show — it reminded her not only of the cars around when she was younger, but also of her son.

“I walked all the way around twice and saw everything that I wanted to see,” Jacobs said. “I remember them so well. They really are the nicest.”
