Three indicted after house shot up

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

A Mahoning County grand jury handed up indictments against three people accused of shooting up a Clay Street home on the East Side with several people inside it last week.

Kalib Nathaniel Butler, 19, of North Evanston Avenue; Ayers Rashaan Bunch, 18, of Plazaview Court; and Jonathan Sterling Simmons, 19, of Plazaview Court, were each indicted Thursday on seven counts of felonious assault and improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation with a firearm specification.

Simmons and Butler are in custody. Police are still looking for Bunch.

Five children and two adults were in the home when it was shot up about 3 a.m. June 18. A man inside the home was wounded by a bullet ricochet, but no one else was injured.

Detectives said the shooting stemmed from a disagreement in a Plazaview Court parking lot about a week before. A sister of one of the three suspects was upset at someone in the home, so she rounded up the men to help her fight them.

A short time after the shooting, Simmons and Butler were caught in a car that matched the description of a car that was involved. A warrant has been issued for Bunch’s arrest.

Those three and all others are expected to be arraigned before Judge Maureen Sweeney next month.
