Canfield man arrested after almost striking city officer with his car

YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said a Canfield man was arrested after he almost ran over a city police officer working a traffic detail at Market Street and Falls Avenue about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Reports said Lt. William Ross was walking back to his cruiser after pulling a car over when a car driven by Scott Bowden, 30, of Glenview Road, swerved like it was trying to hit Ross.

Reports said Ross pressed himself against the side of his cruiser and the car passed him. Ross and others then tried to pull Bowden over but he did not stop until he got to Hughes Street.

Reports said Bowden told police he did not stop when he was being chased because he knew he almost hit an officer and was throwing drugs out of the car and also was swallowing some.

Police took Bowden into custody but he was not accepted into the Mahoning County jail until he was treated at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for the drugs he swallowed. At the jail a pill was found in Bowden's underwear, reports said.

Bowden was booked into the jail on charges of felonious assault, possession of drugs and also a warrant for failure to appear in municipal court.
