Bad news: More heavy rain on the way

YOUNGSTOWN — Expect about 2 more inches of rain in most of the Mahoning Valley starting tonight.

The heavy rain should start close to midnight and turn to lighter rain late Saturday morning, said Eric Wilhelm, chief meteorologist for 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

“Just what we don’t need,” Wilhelm said.

The Valley had 6.1 inches of rain in June as of Thursday afternoon, according to National Weather Service statistics.

The area averages 3.79 inches for the entire month.

The record for the most rain in June is 10.66 inches in 1986.

Two more inches of rain likely will mean this June will eclipse the third-rainiest

June, which occurred in 1957 with 6.97 inches.
