Salem theater alumni in revue

SALEM

Salem Community Theatre will present “Time Slip! A Century of Hits,” its third annual alumni benefit revue, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The revue is directed and cast by people who grew up in the youth theater program at SCT. It is being produced and directed by youth theater alumnus Cameron Clark.

The cast includes Niki Slaven, Abbie Cull, Drew Bostwick, Rebecca Enlow, Bethany Kholos, Kathy Steeb, Chris Hager and Donny Wolford.

Tickets are $10 (free for children 17 and under if accompanied by an adult). Call the box office at 330-332-9688. All proceeds benefit the theater.

SCT’s first youth theater production was the thought-provoking Holocaust narrative “Brundibar” in 2002, directed by Jon Simsic.

After the large-scale production of “Les Miserables — Student Edition” in 2006, Simsic formed the SCT Youth Chorus (currently Salem Youth Chorus) to provide free instruction to young adults in classical choral singing. The chorus has gone on to perform at famous cathedrals across the country, and abroad.

A remarkable number of the participants of SCT’s youth theater program have pursued education and careers in theater and music.

This year’s alumni revue showcases the popular songs of each decade from 1920 to the present day. In contrast to the previous two performances, which were done in a cabaret format with narration between songs, “Time Slip” is a quirky tale of two young time-travelers who must sing their way through the decades in order to return home to the present.

“All of us wanted to do something to give back to the theater that’s given so much to us,” said Clark.
