It’s official: “Fat N’ Furious: Rolling Thunder” will be back for a third season.

The Discovery Channel made the decision to renew the show – filmed in the Mahoning Valley – about 8 p.m. Monday, and a spokeswoman for the channel confirmed it Tuesday.

Specifics about season three – including when it will begin and how many episodes it will comprise – have not been determined yet.

“This is all we can announce right now,” said Jackie Lamaj of the Discovery Channel.

The show has been airing at 10 p.m. Mondays. The second season aired eight episodes between January and March.

“Fat N’ Furious” follows the crew at Boardman-based Christmas Automotive as it restores old muscle cars and gets them ready to drag race.

It is filmed at several local locations, including Quaker Raceway in Salem, an airstrip in Fowler and at Christmas Automotive’s speed shop in New Springfield.

Filming for season three actually began a week ago, Lamaj said.

Lamaj could not reveal what went into the decision to bring it back.

The often-humorous, family-friendly show is led by Tommy Christmas of Boardman, who is the owner of Christmas Automotive, 6602 Market St., and a muscle-car expert.

In the shop with him is Chuck Kountz, Steve McGranahan and Andy Pivarnik.

All four men were busy shooting an episode Tuesday and could not be reached to comment.
