GOSHEN

An elderly woman fired a gun at a burglar Tuesday afternoon, scaring him off.

Police searched for the man, but did not find him.

Goshen Township Police Chief Steve McDaniel said the police were called to a West Garfield Road residence at 2:46 p.m. for a burglary in progress. While they were responding, they were told the woman had fired at the burglar.

McDaniel said the woman saw the man walking toward the house, saw him looking in windows and saw him pick up a rock from her rock garden.

He walked around to the back door and threw the rock through a window, McDaniel said.

The woman got her gun and hid in her bedroom and bathroom area. When he came into the bedroom, she fired at him, McDaniel said.

McDaniel said the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office had a dog searching for the burglar, but could not find him.

Authorities said he is white, about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and 18 to 25 years old. He was wearing a brown stocking hat, a plaid shirt and blue jeans.
