YOUNGSTOWN PLAYHOUSE New-play festival winners selected
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
Two plays have been selected for this year’s Voices of the Valley New One-Act Play Festival at the Youngstown Playhouse.
The panel of judges chose “Clarity” by Michael Angelo III and “Just Someone at a Party” by Terry Shears for the event, which is in its fourth year of celebrating new local playwrights.
Both plays will be performed in the Playhouse’s Moyer Room at 7:30 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 1, and also at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 2.
The festival connects playwrights with directors and actors, and provides them an opportunity to collaborate as their new works are fostered and prepared for fully staged productions.
“Clarity,” which will be directed by Pat Foltz, is about a family of eccentric people who love and support one another. It’s the kind of family that we like to peek at, and then compare to our own.
“Just Someone at a Party,” directed by Dylan White, strips away the artifice of first impressions and shows us the underlying human condition of two strangers.
Actor auditions for “Clarity” and “Just Someone at a Party” will be June 29 and 30 at 6:30 pm at the Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, off Glenwood Avenue.
There are roles for a wide range of both men and women between the ages of 20 and 70. All roles are open. Auditionees should bring a recent photograph of themselves and be prepared to read from the script.
