The couple accused of shooting a man on a North Side street, then fleeing to Pennsylvania, was arraigned in municipal court Monday.
Evegeina Hull, 33, and her husband, Thomas Hull, 58, are each in the Mahoning County jail on $500,000 bond after they were arraigned before Judge Elizabeth Kobly on charges of attempted aggravated murder.
Jail records show both were booked into the jail Friday after they were extradited from Pennsylvania.
The pair are accused of shooting Larry Robinson, 50, at Elm Street and Madison Avenue on May 13. They were captured by U.S. marshals in Pittsburgh on May 15.
Robinson was shot as he was driving an SUV. Reports said a woman, who police say is Evegeina Hull, jumped out of a van that was chasing Robinson, fired several shots into the SUV, then jumped into the van, and the van drove away.
Police said the woman was the shooter, and Thomas Hull drove the van.
City Prosecutor Dana Lantz asked for significant bonds for both, but especially for Evegeina Hull, who she said chased Robinson around the SUV before shooting him. She also is originally from Russia, and Lantz was concerned she could flee there.
The two run an Internet-based business from their Logan Avenue home and asked for a court-appointed lawyer but were refused when Evegeina Hull told Judge Kobly the couple clears about $100,000 a year.
Thomas Hull tried to say that out of that money they still must pay expenses and other employees, but Judge Kobly still would not approve court-appointed counsel.
Thomas Hull also argued for a lower bond.
“This is not who we are, your honor,” Thomas Hull said via video hookup from the jail. “We are an asset to the community.”
But Judge Kobly said that $500,000 bond for the charges the Hulls face, plus the fact they already fled the jurisdiction once, is reasonable.
