Beatitude receives $10,000 for event

YOUNGSTOWN

Home Savings Charitable Foundation recently donated $10,000 to the Beatitude House to sponsor the Over the Edge for Beatitude House event.

Beatitude House is celebrating its 25th anniversary with Over the Edge, a fundraising event in which participants raise donations for the Beatitude House in exchange for an opportunity to rappel over the edge of the 18-story Metropolitan Building in downtown Youngstown on Sept. 25 and 26. Beatitude House works with disadvantaged women and children to create homes, provide education opportunities and foster healthy families.

Helping the Valley

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley (formerly HMHP Foundation) grants inject more than $1 million a year into the local economy.

While some of these are for programs that are directly related to our organization – free screenings for breast, prostate, lung and skin cancer – many others target the general health/well being of the community at large.

For example, 2014 grants funded Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp.’s “Double Up” program, purchased training equipment at Warren JFK High School, and provided matching funds for Catholic Charities’ homeless health link.

Sunday Dinner pledge

YOUNGSTOWN

Home Instead Senior Care is working to bring back the Sunday dinner because a recent study shows that almost half of families who live near senior relatives don’t share enough meals with them.

For every person who signs the “Sunday Dinner pledge” to regularly eat with a senior family member, Home Instead Senior Care Foundation will donate $1 to Meals on Wheels. The goal is 20,000 pledges.

To help families, Home Instead has teamed up with a celebrity chef to develop recipes, created a grocery shopping list, plus mapped out activities for before and after meal time with a senior.

OHA details focus areas

COLUMBUS

The Ohio Hospital Association debuted its new Institute of Health Innovation at its recent quality summit. The institute has three primary focus areas, said Mike Abrams, OHA president and CEO. They are: accelerating health care quality, integrating transition of patient care, and advancing community health.

Also at the summit, OHA’s quality team launched a new statewide health care quality improvement initiative to reduce sepsis in Ohio. Sepsis affects more than 50,000 patients per year in Ohio or 5 percent of all discharges.

Walk With A Doc initiative set for Ohio

COLUMBUS

The Ohio Hospital Association, at its recent annual meeting, kicked off a statewide partnership with the Walk With A Doc initiative to encourage healthy programming in Ohio communities.

“This partnership directly connects to our mission of collaborating with member hospitals and health systems to ensure a healthy Ohio,” said Mike Abrams, OHA president and CEO.

In celebration of its 100-year anniversary, OHA has partnered with the national Walk With A Doc program to offer 100 Ohio hospitals a free WWAD startup kit. Through this partnership, OHA will cover hospitals’ WWAD membership fee of $500 for the first year, which includes a basic starter kit, and liability insurance for all participants.
