AUSTINTOWN

Austintown trustees approved a road project Monday afternoon.

Foust Construction Inc. of Youngstown was unanimously approved for the LeHarps Road improvement phase two project. That contract is worth $169,343 and is to install drains on the road so water no longer pools on the road and damages the pavement on the west end of LeHarps.

Mike Dockry, Austintown Township administrator and road superintendent, said work on the project should start within the next month.

Trustee Jim Davis began Monday afternoon’s meeting by noting two deaths. He thanked former Mahoning County Engineer Richard A. Marsico “for everything he did for Austintown Township while in office.” Marsico died at 81 earlier this month.

Davis also noted the Sunday death of T.J. Perren, a frequent meeting attendee who talked about benefit breakfasts and dinners in the township and gave updates on the annual Friends of Special Olympic four-person scramble golf outing. “He always seemed to come to our meetings to keep us up to date. ... He made sure he came and let everyone know about it,” Davis said. “Those two will be sadly missed by Austintown, and our condolences go out to their families.”

Davis also highlighted activities next week in Austintown in the lead-up to July 4 celebrations. That includes the Canfield Community Band playing at the Austintown Township Park next Tuesday, the second annual Car Cruise at Trax Restaurant and Lounge on July 1 and the Austintown Fireworks at 10 p.m. July 3 after an afternoon and evening of events at Austintown Plaza, 6000 Mahoning Ave.

“We’re really excited for it,” Davis said of the holiday events. Davis is co-chairman of the fireworks committee with Mark Cole.
