SENIOR SIDELIGHTS
Guardian Angels of Ohio, a volunteer program of Trumbull County Probate Court, is looking for new volunteers. Angel volunteers receive training to become advocates who reach out as friends to seniors who may need a friendly phone call, a visit in a nursing home, or a visit at home. Angels also are involved in planning special events for seniors such as health fairs and Make a Difference day projects. The next meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. July 7 at Shepherd of the Valley, 4100 N. River Road, Warren. Reservations are needed for the 5 p.m. dinner, which costs $6.50. For information or reservations call 330-675-2521 or go to www.trumbullprobate.org.
Niles SCOPE Senior Center, 14 E. State St., across from the Niles Police and Fire Safety complex, will offer a free educational Lunch and Learn program for senior citizens at 11:45 a.m. Friday. Katie Rusu, LPN clinical liaison from Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley will present the program. She will explain the role of Long Term Acute Care Hospital for residents of Trumbull County. Rusu has worked with senior citizens in the area for the past twelve years and thinks it is important to know the facts about their health-care choices before they become ill and the decisions are left to others. Reservations are required to attend. There is no charge. Call the center at 330-544-3676 to register or stop in. The center is offering a trip to Mountaineer Casino on June 30. The bus will arrive in Niles at 8 a.m. and leave the casino at 3 p.m. The trip includes $25 in free play. The lunch buffet will cost $6. Payment is due with reservations. For information, call or visit the center.
