Scottish Rite names 2 Masons for Meritorious Service Award

Raymond F. Bishop and Robert K. Ellway will receive the Meritorious Service Award from the Ohio Council of Deliberation of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite at its annual meeting in Akron in 2016.

The council selected them for the award at its annual meeting June 13.

Bishop has been an active Mason for many years. He served as master of the lodge and presiding officer of all three York Rite bodies, for which he also served as secretary and recorder for the past 10 years.

He is a Knight York Cross of Honor, Ohio Priory 18. He has served the Valley of Youngstown as most wise master of the Youngstown Chapter of Rose Croix and serves as director of the Feast of the Paschal Lamb. He also is orator of Hiram Lodge of Perfection.

A retired Army command sergeant major, Bishop also is active in the National Sojourners, Italian-American War Veterans and the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Association.

Ellway has served as master of his lodge and presiding officer of the three York bodies. He has remained active for years. In the Valley of Youngstown he has served as sovereign prince of Youngstown Council of Princes of Jerusalem and serves as senior warden of Hiram Lodge of Perfection.

For many years he has been serving on the robing committee. He also fills roles in many degrees and has been the guide in the fourth degree since its inception.
