Ohio Cultural Alliance meeting is July 6

The Ohio Cultural Alliance will host its next meeting at 6 p.m. July 6 at Antone’s Banquet Center, 8578 Market St.

Dr. Victor Wan-Tatah, Ph.D., will address the theme “Going Places with the Ohio Cultural Alliance: Cameroon.”

Wan-Tatah, a native of Cameroon, has a long history as a professor at Youngstown State University. He has recently retired, having earned a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship.

Dr. H.W. Martin, a professor of English and poet-in-residence at the University of Dayton, will provide cultural enrichment.

His program will explain how the sermon, the spiritual, the blues, gospel, jazz and popular ballads as well as folk tales operate to keep African-American literature alive.

This month’s recipient of the Community Project is the Ursuline Sisters. Attendees are asked to bring paper products or nonperishable food items to the meeting.

Membership for this transitional year (September 2014-December 2015) is $25 per person. The cost for each meeting is $15 for each paid member and $20 for nonmembers.

For this meeting only, members may bring a guest for $5.
