Junior Civic League will present scholarships

The Junior Civic League will present scholarships to nine local high school graduates at its annual Scholarship Brunch set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Holiday Inn—South, 7410 South Ave.

Guest speaker for the event will be Darrell Lynn Grace, D.O. She is employed by IMS of Akron and works as a hospitalist at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. She has earned numerous awards in the medical profession and is a community volunteer. Joselyn Parker, a jazz vocalist, will entertain.

Since its inception, the Junior Civic League has awarded more than $524,800 in scholarships to high school students selected on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, community involvement and personal qualities and strengths.

This year Cinderella Ball Scholarships will be awarded to Lyric Harden, Miss Cinderella, $2,500; Jasmyne Bolling, first attendant, $1,800; and Alexandra Carnathan, second attendant, $1,500.

Recipients of $1,500 scholarships will be Keilah Bryant, Youngstown Early College; Adam Butler, Warren G. Harding High School; Maryam Dennis, Choffin/East High School; Tatiaunna Jones, Chaney High School; Asia Jones-Williams, Chaney; and Alexis Saunders, Austintown Fitch.

Other recognitions will be given to Gianna Davila of Liberty High School and Christian Richardson of Warren G. Harding.
