Had SC church-goers been armed, carnage may have been much less

As soon as the church shooting in Charleston, S.C., took place, we heard the usual cries for more gun control. Has it occurred to any of these gun controllers that if one or two people in the church had been carrying a gun, there would not have been so many killed and wounded right now?

There is a saying that when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. They can’t be everywhere at once. The prohibition against guns in churches didn’t keep out that wacko’s gun. It only kept out the guns of law-abiding citizens who could have protected the others.

Ironically, the day before The Vindicator carried an article on the shooting, it had an article about a bill being introduced in the Ohio House allowing concealed weapons to be carried in more places, but the bill specifically excluded churches. Those who push for gun control should give up their personal bodyguards and rely on the police as they want the rest of us to do.
