The Home Savings Charitable Foundation has donated $25,000 to the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. to support the agency’s Community Financial Literacy Initiative.

The funds will support YNDC’s homeownership development services, including certified housing counseling and education as well as the organization’s small business development programming.

Two in custody

YOUNGSTOWN

Police took two people into custody about 2:30 a.m. Friday on charges of breaking into Williamson Elementary School, 58 Williamson Ave.

George Ronnell Fort, 18, was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools. A juvenile also was taken into custody as a John Doe because he refused to give police his name or any other information.

The juvenile was caught by police after a short foot chase in which he was found hiding in some bushes.

Fort was found next to a window that was broken, and there also was a hammer next to Fort that reports said was used to break the window. Reports said the main office was ransacked and police found stickers and candy strewn across the floor.

Burglary probed

Township police are investigating a reported burglary at an Argyle Avenue residence.

The victim reported to police Thursday he noticed a back door standing open when he returned to his home that day.

He then discovered the home was missing three televisions, a jewelry box and a gaming console.

The value of the missing property is estimated at nearly $6,500.

Pastor retiring

The Rev. Timothy O’Neill, who has served as pastor of St. Patrick Church, 357 N. Main St., for 22 years, is retiring. A retirement Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 28 at the church. A celebration reception will follow; reservations are appreciated by calling 330-534-1928. There is no fee.

Facing charges

A township man faces multiple charges after police say he falsely reported a robbery after he accidentally shot himself in the hand.

Vernon Johnson, 21, of Prestwick Drive, faces felony charges of being a felon in possession of weapons and receiving stolen property. He also is charged with making false alarms and obstructing official business, both misdemeanors.

The weapons charge stems from the fact that Johnson is under felony indictments in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for possession of cocaine, tampering with evidence, carrying concealed weapons and aggravated possession of drugs, according to a police report.

Johnson was released on bond and is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Mahoning County Area Court.
