STRUTHERS

A city man is scheduled to appear in municipal court Friday to answer charges of threatening children with a gun.

Officers arrested Gust Mamounis, 38, on Monday on charges of aggravated menacing, disorderly conduct and inducing panic.

According to police reports, officers received numerous calls saying Mamounis was brandishing a gun at a group of children.

Police said Mamounis also called the station saying he was following the children along Elm Street.

An iPhone video shows a physical altercation between Mamounis’ daughter and another girl in front of Mamounis’ Hawthorne Street home.

Six other children, ranging in age from 11 to 15, were watching the fight. The video shows Mamounis leaving his home while the girls were fighting. In the video, Mamounis is shown holding a handgun, which he had removed from its holster. Police later determined the .40-caliber handgun had live ammunition.

Though the video cut out soon after Mamounis left the house, all parties involved stated that Mamounis began to follow the five girls and two other children west on Elm Street while threatening to kill them and using racial slurs.

Police said they plan to pursue ethnic-intimidation charges against Mamounis due to his use of slurs. Five of the children, including the girl who had been fighting his daughter, are white. The other two are black, police said.

Police arrested Mamounis at his home and took his gun. He was released on a $300 bond and will be arraigned at 9:30 a.m.
