CAMPBELL

The city and its police department are “on the right track” with its new gym, said Mayor William VanSuch.

The city recognized two donors for their contribution to the newly renovated facility at Wednesday night’s council meeting.

Muscle Connection of Poland and the North Star Paint Co. in Campbell donated more than $35,000 toward renovations and new equipment for the facility at city hall, 351 Tenney Ave.

“Without their generosity, we would have nothing,” he said. “We need more people like them.”

The facility, which is open to all city hall employees, now features two treadmills, a cushioned floor, punching bags, weights and workout machines.

John Straub and Nick Kalouris, owners of Muscle Connection and North Star, respectively, both have roots in Campbell.

“This is home to me,” Kalouris said. “I support the chief [Drew Rauzan] and the job they are doing.”

Officers who are eligible for promotion have to take a fitness test, and the department also offers a $1,000 stipend each year as an incentive.

About 85 percent of the department’s 14 full-time staff officers have taken and passed the annual test, according to The Vindicator files.
