$10K donation nets hockey fan chance to use Taser on mayor

GLENDALE, Ariz.

An Arizona Coyotes fan got to take out her frustration on the mayor behind the decision to send the hockey team packing.

KPNX-TV reports that disgruntled fan Ronda Pearson used a stun gun on Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers on Saturday as part of a charity pledge.

Weiers volunteered to be stunned with a Taser at the mall event if a $10,000 donation was made to an Arizona charity that supports first-responders.

Firefighters determined Weiers was not injured.

Organizers say Pearson and another Coyotes fan showed up with a $10,000 money order.

Weiers and the Glendale City Council voted Wednesday to end an arena lease agreement with the Coyotes. A judge temporarily halted its termination Friday.

Pearson gained attention on social media for a public rant directed at Weiers.

School district’s diploma cover features wrong state seal

KELSO, Wash.

High-school graduates in Kelso, Wash., discovered an error when they received their diplomas during Saturday’s graduation ceremony.

The covers protecting the diplomas carried the state seal of Oregon. Kelso High School is in southwest Washington.

KPTV-TV in Portland, Ore., reports that the diplomas did list the correct high school.

Kelso superintendent Glenn Gelbrich says the mistake was an ordering error. The error was discovered after the ceremony was underway.

Students will receive new diploma covers.

The diplomas are valid.

Truck spills foul chicken bits in Alabama, raises a stink

ALBERTVILLE, Ala.

Police say a truck spilled smelly chicken parts all over an Alabama street, closing the road for hours as workers tried to clean the mess and contain the stench.

WHNT-TV reports that county emergency officials say the truck driver hit his brakes to avoid a wreck Thursday in Albertville but ended up spilling the chicken parts at an intersection. The parts are byproducts from a chicken-processing plant. Crews sprayed deodorizer and poured sand on the mess, and then put it into the truck to haul it away.

The road has since reopened.
