Judge dismisses perjury charges against 3 defendants

YOUNGSTOWN

Perjury charges of three defendants involved with the former Go Go Girls Cabaret in Austintown were dismissed Monday.

Sebastian Rucci had filed a motion to dismiss June 1 a for speedy-trial violation.

Judge Paul Mitrovich, a retired Lake County Common Pleas Court judge sitting as a visiting Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judge, issued his ruling Monday, dismissing the charges against Rucci, 54, of Poland; Curtis Jones, 39, of Cortland; and Peter E. Sciullo, 28, of Niles.

A nonjury trial was to have begun Monday for Rucci and Jones, while Sciullo had a July 6 jury trial scheduled.

Ex-teacher pleads guilty to 2 counts of sexual battery

A former Boardman Center Middle School teacher faces possible jail time after pleading guilty Monday to two counts of sexual battery.

Jay Dana, 58, of Florida originally faced three counts of rape after being accused of having sex with three woman who were impaired by alcohol or other substances, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

The victims were women Dana had dated. Dana was a former English teacher and basketball coach.

The Mahoning County prosecutors are recommending Dana serve 75 days in jail and require him to register as a sex offender.

Before moving to Florida, Dana lived in Columbiana.
