Pitt star Boyd being investigated for DUI

PITTSBURGH

Pittsburgh star wide receiver Tyler Boyd is under investigation for suspicion of driving under the influence following a traffic stop early Friday morning.

Jefferson Hills police say the 20-year-old Boyd was pulled over around 2:30 a.m. Friday. He underwent breathalyzer and blood tests. Sergeant Kevin King says the results are pending and no charges have been filed.

Boyd, from Clairton, Pennsylvania, about 30 minutes south of Pittsburgh, caught 78 passes for 1,261 yards and eight touchdowns and was a first-team All-ACC selection as a sophomore in 2014. First-year coach Pat Narduzzi called Boyd’s situation “both serious and disappointing,” and added Boyd will be held accountable to the team’s standards of discipline and behavior.

US-Sweden game sets viewership record

NEW YORK

The United States’ scoreless draw with Sweden has drawn the biggest television audience for a Women’s World Cup group stage match and the fourth-largest for any game in the tournament.

The 0-0 tie Friday night averaged 4.5 million viewers on Fox. The Americans’ opener had set the previous high Monday with 3.3 million viewers on Fox Sports 1.

Fox said Saturday that the only previous Women’s World Cup matches to draw larger audiences were the 1999 and 2011 finals, and a 1999 semifinal.

The viewership was more than double the 1.9 million for the second U.S. game in 2011, which started just before noon in the Eastern time zone on a Saturday with the tournament in Germany. Friday’s match in Winnipeg was in prime time.
