Heavy rain overwhelms Warren's storm-water system tonight

Off-and-on heavy rains overwhelmed the city’s storm-water system and caused widespread flooding on streets throughout the city, Warren police reported at 9 p.m.

Rains began at 5 p.m, and a downpour at 8 p.m. was all the system could take, Sgt. Bryan Holmes said. He said police are overwhelmed with calls about flooding, and their priorities are the streets. No streets were closed as of 9 p.m.

Holmes said that if it quits raining, the system will be able to accommodate the water and the flooding should subside.
