YOUNGSTOWN

Cynthia Carter, a social worker with the Family Investigative Service Unit of the city police department, was honored Friday for her dedication to improving the quality of life of the city’s senior citizens.

The Adult Protective Services Division of the Mahoning County Department of Job and Family Services presented Carter with its certificate of appreciation, together with a commendation of her and her unit from Gov. John Kasich.

When APS calls in cases of suspected elder abuse, neglect or exploitation, Carter helps APS workers gain entrance to the homes of senior citizens, who may be victims, according to a JFS news release.

The recognition of Carter was presented in advance of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is being observed Monday.

Those wishing to report elder abuse, neglect or exploitation should call 330-884-6952.
