Two Youngstown women face charges after arrests at Boardman Kmart

BOARDMAN

Two Youngstown women face charges after township police arrested them at Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road, late Thursday.

Jamika Dates, 27, of Parkhill Drive, is charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. She also was arrested on theft, failure to appear and probation violation warrants.

Rayvenn Ortiz, 19, of Lake Drive, was arrested on a theft warrant and cited for possession of marijuana.

Store employees called police after recognizing the women as suspects in a May 9 theft at the store. When police attempted to handcuff Dates Thursday, she reportedly tried to get rid of a sock filled with cash, suspected heroin and a plastic straw with suspected heroin residue, leading to the additional charges.

The heroin possession charge is a fifth-degree felony.

Dates was taken to the Mahoning County jail and Ortiz was released on a summons. Both are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
