Man arraigned on Trumbull County charges for third time in a week

Staff report

WARREN

A man from Warren and Newton Falls was arraigned Thursday on a third set of charges this week – this time for purportedly making up a story about an officer using excessive and unnecessary force against him.

Frederick Dengg, 24, pleaded not guilty Thursday in Warren Municipal Court to misdemeanor making false allegations of police officer misconduct and receiving stolen property. He is ordered held in the Trumbull County Jail without eligibility to make bond.

The false-allegations charge relates to a complaint Dengg filed with the Warren Police Department April 22 against officer David Weber, saying Weber hit him in the head with a forearm, used his stun gun on him and “grounded” his face into glass during an April 21 arrest.

An internal-affairs investigation, however, turned up a citizen who saw the arrest and who contradicted Dengg’s complaint, according to a memo written by Lt. Jeff Cole.

The memo says Weber arrested Dengg after a foot pursuit lasting about six minutes. A Warren police report says Dengg fled on foot after an officer stopped to check on a vehicle that had been traveling on Belvedere Avenue Southeast with a blown-out tire.

The vehicle turned out to be stolen and had fictitious license plates, police said.

Dengg had injuries that required treatment at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital, but they apparently came from getting caught on a fence and having been tackled by the officer against a house at the time he was apprehended, Cole’s report said.

Dengg also was arraigned Monday in the court on a separate receiving-stolen-property charge related to a motorcycle police found him driving in Warren last week that was stolen from Ravenna.

He was arraigned in Central District Court in Cortland on Monday on misdemeanor theft related to a dog he’s accused of stealing from a car in the parking lot of the Bazetta Township Walmart on April 12.
