Eastwood to host high school all-star game

It’s not for a state title, but the area’s best baseball players will take the field once again in the High School Valley All-Star Classic on Saturday at Eastwood Field.
Representatives from Mahoning County will play those from Trumbull County in the third annual all-star game.
Coming off a deep run in the state tournament, John Clegg and Evan Nesbitt of Western Reserve High School will team up with Dom Lipari and Ricky Svetlak of Poland High School for Mahoning County.
The four were playing in Columbus last weekend for state championships.
Clegg went 3-for-7 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored in two games at Huntington Field. The Blue Devils lost 6-0 to Newark Catholic in Division IV, finishing runner-up for their best finish in school history.
Svetlak hit .522 with 38 RBIs and 29 runs scored in his senior year at Poland. The Bulldogs fell to Defiance 5-3 in Division II, also earning the school’s best finish at the state baseball tournament.
The Western Reserve coaching staff, led by Ed Anthony, will manage the Mahoning County team. Other notables on the roster are Ryan Miller and Tyler Baird of South Range High School and Nate Clark and Tyler Totani of Jackson-Milton High School.
Leading the Trumbull County team are a pair of talented pitchers. Kyle Harris of Girard High School and Nick Ferguson of Mineral Ridge High School had impressive seasons on the mound and hope to duplicate that success as all-stars.
Also on the team is Warren JFK duo Preston Caparanis and Dante Munno.
The Champion High School coaching staff, led by Rick Yauger, will manage the Trumbull County team. The event is hosted by the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the short season Single A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, and sponsored by Baird Brothers Fine Hardwoods and media partners WFMJ and WBCB.
Tickets for the game cost $5 for general admission.
First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
