Akron man sentenced for Warren burglary

WARREN

Maurice Moore, 47, of Akron, represented himself at his trial on burglary charges, but he failed to convince a jury of his innocence.

Moore will spend eight years in prison for the burglary of a house on Trumbull Avenue on June 21, 2012.

Moore served as his own attorney during a trial last week in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

During Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Ronald Rice noted Moore has had 34 criminal convictions in his life. He was ordered to make restitution of $1,000 to the owner of the house because $1,000 was the deductible the owner had to pay for the television, DVD player, DVDs, stereo equipment, police scanner and leather jacket Moore stole.

He was identified as the burglar because he cut himself while breaking a window on the front door of the home, which caused blood to drop onto the wooden floor and door knob, police said.

The DNA recovered was a match with the DNA on file as a result of Moore’s earlier convictions, prosecutors said.
