WARREN

Frederick Dengg, 24, of Holcomb Road in Newton Falls and Belvedere Avenue in Warren, was arraigned on charges out of Warren and Bazetta this week after being arrested Friday with a stolen motorcycle.

Warren police were called to Mercer Avenue Northeast at 1:19 p.m. because a Portage County deputy was trying to recover a motorcycle stolen during a burglary in Ravenna and chased a white male who was riding it.

The deputy followed the cyclist on North Park Avenue but lost him. Two Warren detectives captured Dengg at Washington Street and Elm Road, and another Warren officer found the motorcycle in high grass not far away.

The Portage County detective said he first spotted Dengg standing near the motorcycle at an address on Mercer Street Northeast ,where he had been advised to look for it.

A not-guilty plea was entered for Dengg in Warren Municipal Court Monday to felony receiving stolen property, and Dengg was ordered held in the Trumbull County jail without bond eligibility.

Dengg also had a hearing Monday in Central District Court in Cortland on a misdemeanor theft charge relating to the theft of a dog from a car in the Bazetta Township Walmart parking lot April 12.

Bazetta Police posted a photo of Dengg on its Facebook page after the dog went missing, and Dengg called police to say he rescued the dog because it had its head stuck in the car window.

But surveillance video showed the dog was moving freely through the car and was not stuck when Dengg took it, said Detective Joe Sofchek. Dengg pleaded not guilty. Dengg’s girlfriend returned the dog to the police station, and the owner got it back.
