Local auto sales slightly down in May

Mahoning Valley auto sales were slightly lower last month compared with May 2014.
To be exact, new- and used-vehicle sales were down by 84 from 5,998 sales in May 2014 to 5,914 in May 2015 – a 1.4 percent decrease year over year.
The Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio released its monthly data compiled from titles processed at county title departments by the final business day each month Wednesday.
The data show just new-vehicle sales dropped 5.2 percent in May, and for the year, new-vehicle sales are down 3.3 percent.
Used-car sales, however, are up by 1.5 percent this May compared with last and up 1 percent for the year.
Dealerships leading the pack in May for new- and used-car sales are Greenwood Chevrolet of Austintown with 292 sales, Taylor Kia of Boardman with 215 sales and Sweeney Chevrolet of Boardman with 212 sales.
The top new models in May were the Chevrolet Equinox with sales topping 240, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 105 sales, and the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze with 92 sales.
The top used models in May were the Ford F-150 with 99 sales, the Chevrolet Impala with 95 sales and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 94 sales.
Used Cruze sales came in fifth place with 76 sold in May.
Locally, the top three new makes were Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota in May. The top three used makes in May were Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge.
