Commissioners award contract for light at dangerous Boardman intersection

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County commissioners awarded a $190,247 contract for installation this summer of a traffic light at South Avenue and McClurg Road in Boardman.

The contract was awarded Thursday to Foust Construction Inc. of Youngstown.

The new light will include a turning arrow for northbound vehicles on South Avenue making left turns to go west on McClurg.

The intersection now only has a stop sign for eastbound motorists on McClurg who encounter a dangerous left turn if they want to go north on the five-lane South Avenue, according to county Engineer Patrick Ginnetti.

The commissioners also awarded a $263,877 contract to Becdel Controls Inc. of Hubbard for emergency electric generator replacement at Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., and a $68,946 contract for a downtown Struthers lighting-improvement project to S.E.T. Inc. of Lowellville.
