One bid submitted for LeHarps Road project in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN

Trustees most likely will award a LeHarps Road improvement project at their next meeting.

Trustees said Monday night they received one bid, from Foust Construction Inc. of Youngstown, for $198,000. The work is to install drains so water no longer pools on the road and damages the pavement on the west end of LeHarps.

Mike Dockry, township administrator and road superintendent, explained that Foust’s bid, the only bid for the work, was about $8,000 over an estimate from an engineer.

A grant from Issue 1, a state bond program used for road and infrastructure improvements, is paying $131,000 for the project, or about two-thirds of the total cost.

The township previously worked on LeHarps where it intersects with Meridian Road due to truck traffic damaging the pavement.

Mark Cole spoke during the public comment section of Monday’s meeting about the festivities in the township leading up to the July 3 fireworks show for Independence Day. Cole is co-chairman of the fireworks committee with trustee Jim Davis.

“It’s going to be a great location,” Cole said of the new arrangement of having the celebration at the Austintown Plaza. “We’re looking for the tenants [along Mahoning Avenue] to come out and do sidewalk sales.”
