YOUNGSTOWN
Mercy Health Youngstown, formerly Humility of Mary Health Partners, is offering diabetes education from 9 to 11:30 a.m. today through Thursday at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, 1044 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, and Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland.
Health care professionals who teach the course, which is certified by the American Diabetes Association, focus on the medical aspects of the disease such as medications, glucose monitoring, exercise and complications during the first session. The second and third sessions focus on learning to plan meals, count carbohydrates, interpret food labels and make positive food choices.

Diabetes program
NEW CASTLE, PA.
The Penn State University Extension Office is offering its Dining with Diabetes program from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 18 and 25 at the New Castle Public Library, 207 E. North St., New Castle.
Participants will receive information on how nutrition, medication and exercise are used to help manage diabetes. A registered dietitian teaches each class. Dining with Diabetes is an approved research project conducted by Penn State University. Participation in the research project is voluntary.
Medicaid and Medicare participants receive free enrollment. The cost to others is $45 for individuals and $55 for a family of two. To register, call 724-654-8370.
Skin cancer
CINCINNATI
Mercy Health, a Catholic health care ministry serving Ohio and Kentucky, has devoted the seventh of its monthly “Mercy Health: Helping You Be Well” videos to skin cancer prevention. One in five Americans will get skin cancer.
The video on Mercy Health’s YouTube channel addresses these skin cancer-related issues: the main causes, prevention, warning signs and treatment options. An infographic with skin cancer facts is available at http://bit.ly/1FbrDf7.
Label reading

Learn to read and decipher food labels, and how information on labels relates to health during a “Healthy Eating for You: Label Reading” presentation at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the Warren Room at St. Joseph Warren Hospital, 667 Eastland Ave.

‘Strong Bones’

Hotline training
YOUNGSTOWN
Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc., which offers information, referral and crisis intervention, is conducting free training classes for people interested in volunteering for the 24-hour hot line.
Classes are from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on eight consecutive Mondays, beginning July 6 and ending Aug. 24. Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment. For information, call 330-747-2696.
