Rash of burglaries reported in Boardman over the weekend
BOARDMAN
Police are investigating multiple burglaries that were reported at township homes over the weekend.
“It seems like we had a little uptick here recently,” said Police Chief Jack Nichols, recalling another recent incident in which a victim caught a suspect hiding in his car and held him at the scene until police arrived.
Seven reports from victims on Brookwood Road, Firnley Avenue and Jaguar, Homestead, Mill Creek, Garden Valley and Palo Verde drives were filed between Friday and Sunday, according to police records.
Police responded to the Jaguar Drive incident at 3:56 p.m. Friday, where a married couple reported that someone had entered their home and taken $460 in cash, an iPad mini and thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.
Another burglary was reported about 8:30 p.m. Friday on Palo Verde Drive. A couple told police when they returned home from vacation that night, they observed signs of forced entry into their home, and the house had been ransacked. Cash and jewelry were taken from the house.
Police found a bent shovel on the property that appeared to match markings on a door that had been pried open, according to a report.
On Saturday, township police responded to two reported burglaries.
Brookwood Road victims told police they awoke in the middle of the night and discovered their house had been ransacked after they noticed their hallway light had been turned on. They reportedly were missing an iPhone, credit cards, other cards and cash.
Police determined the point of entry was an open window.
The Homestead Drive victims reported someone entered the house Saturday afternoon and took cellphones, gaming consoles, video games, a tablet and a laptop.
Police responded to reported burglaries at three locations Sunday.
A Firnley Avenue resident reported she returned home that day to find her kitchen window screen slashed. Missing items included jewelry, a computer, $470 in cash and a cellphone.
Police responded to Mill Creek Drive late Sunday, where a victim showed them signs that someone had entered her residence over the weekend. She did not notice any items missing.
Another victim called police as a suspect was burglarizing their Garden Valley Drive home. The victim said she saw a man leave her house through a back door, while her husband was inside sleeping. The suspect fled when she screamed, she said.
The victims reported the suspect got away with a tablet, a credit card and jewelry.
