Youngstown man on stolen motorcycle died after hitting a utility pole
YOUNGSTOWN
The Mahoning County Coroner’s office identified the man who died in a two-motorcycle accident over the weekend while police try to piece together what led to the fatality.
Te’kquan Alexander, 37, of Rhoda Avenue in Youngstown, was driving Saturday northbound on Market Street, near West Evergreen Avenue, alongside another motorcycle when both lost control, went off the side of the road, and hit a utility pole, according to a Monday statement from the coroner’s office.
The accident occurred at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. William Ross, head of the city police department’s traffic unit. The victim was driving a Suzuki motorcycle that was reported stolen, said Ross, who didn’t know how Alexander got the motorcycle.
Alexander was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:57 p.m. Saturday, according to the coroner’s office.
Two women on a Can-Am Spyder three-wheel motorcycle were injured in the accident and remain at St. Elizabeth, Ross said.
No one was wearing a helmet, he said.
“We’re still looking for a cause and a factor,” Ross said. “Tox[icology] screens to see if impairment was a factor will take a couple of weeks. We still need evidence as to what happened.”
There was a witness to the accident, he said. The investigation is ongoing.
“We’re still trying to put the pieces together,” said Patrolman Morris Lee, who is handling this investigation. “There’s a lot happening with this.”
