YOUNGSTOWN
City firefighters battled two fires over the weekend.
A blaze at a 309 Edwards St. home on the South Side about 1:30 p.m. caused $3,000 in damage. Reports said when crews arrived they found light smoke showing from a dryer in the basement that was on fire. All six people inside the house got out before firefighters arrived.
The cause is listed as equipment failure. There were no injuries.
A vacant house at 1434 Republic Ave. caught fire Saturday. Crews who arrived at the home about 10:55 p.m. found it fully in flames. Damage is listed at $4,000, a total loss. No one was injured.
2-year-old girl found
WARREN
A resident of the 2300 block of Montgomery Street Northwest came home at 11:55 a.m. Sunday to find an unidentified 2-year-old girl with blond hair playing in the backyard wearing only a dirty diaper and sandals.
Police arrived and went door to door attempting to locate the child’s parents, but they were unsuccessful. The child’s diaper was changed, and the child had blisters and feces in the diaper, suggesting it had not been changed in quite a while, police said.
Trumbull County Children Services took possession of the child at 1 p.m., and no one had contacted the police about the child as of Sunday or Monday.

Sharon Regional Health System will host two free bariatric- surgery informational sessions, one at 9 a.m. Thursday and another at 6 p.m. June 24 at the Hermitage Diagnostic and Imaging Center, 2435 Garden Way.
The sessions include information on obesity and its impact on overall health and a review of surgical weight-loss options including benefits and risks.

Cash stolen in break-in
AUSTINTOWN
Someone broke into a township home Friday and stole $750 in cash.
According to a police report, a resident in the 4700 block of East Webb Road wasn’t home between 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. Friday.
Authorities were called at 12:35 p.m. and found a broken window and dresser drawers rummaged through. The report was available Monday.
The cash was removed from the dresser, and Austintown detectives are investigating.
Computer-skills class
YOUNGSTOWN
The Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership, 1325 Fifth Ave., is offering a Basic Computer Skills Course from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 and June 24.
The three-hour beginner’s class covers the use of the mouse, Windows operating system, computer terms, basic Internet use and email. Registration is required.
All participants must be income eligible at or below 125 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. Documentation of eligibility is required. Participants who complete the class will be entered into a drawing for a gift card and laptop computer.

Police: Gun was stolen
LIBERTY
The gun used in a weekend shooting that injured a teen was stolen, Liberty police said.
According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, police say four boys were home alone Saturday.
Three of them were playing video games in the basement of a house on Montrose Avenue.
One of the boys was purportedly playing with the gun and it accidentally discharged, shooting his 13-year-old cousin in the foot.
The investigation is continuing. Police say criminal charges could be filed.
