Fundraiser set for hurt Sox fan
BOSTON
Friends have started an online fundraiser for a woman hit by a flying bat during Friday night’s game between the Oakland Athletics and the Boston Red Sox.
Tonya Carpenter remained in serious condition Sunday at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was struck in the head by Oakland player Brett Lawrie’s bat as she sat between home plate and the third base dugout at Fenway Park with her son and a friend.
Her friends say on their gofundme page 44-year-old Carpenter was lucid after surgery Friday, but faces a long recovery. They say she’s “a beautiful, positive, upbeat, hardworking single mom who would do anything” for family and friends.
Her family says in a statement they’re “grateful to all who have reached out with thoughts and prayers.”

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario
Suzann Pettersen birdied two of the last three holes to win the Manulife LPGA Classic for her 15th LPGA Tour victory and first since October 2013.
Pettersen closed with a 3-under 69 in windy conditions for a one-stroke victory over Brittany Lang at Whistle Bear Golf Club, the first-year venue after three seasons at Grey Silo in Waterloo.

Calcavecchia never trailed during the final round at the Wakonda Club. The 13-time PGA Tour winner finished at 12-under 204.

Durant shot a 69, missing a long birdie putt on the 18th hole. Henninger had a 68.
Rod Spittle was fourth at 10 under after a 68.
