Akron Children’s to open 2nd office in Warren
WARREN
Akron Children’s Hospital is opening its second pediatric primary care office in Warren, the third in the Mahoning Valley, on July 8.
The new pediatric primary- care office is at 661 Mahoning Ave. NW, the previous home of the Lake to River Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The project includes installation of steel arches and beams on the exterior of the building to enhance its architectural design, and it will also be expanded. The structure is being gutted inside. It will house examination rooms, physician offices and reception and waiting areas, said Ben Teske, director of the primary care network called Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics.
Akron Children’s pediatric primary-care facilities also are at The Marketplace, 5000 E. Market St., Suite 30, Warren, and the hospital’s Beeghly Campus, 6505 Market St., Boardman.
In addition, the practice of Dr. Cecil Desai at 1988 Parkman Road NW, will merge with the new Akron Children’s office when he retires July 31.
One of the attractions to the Mahoning Avenue site is its proximity to Dr. Desai’s office, Teske said.
“We are excited to help keep health care conveniently located while providing families a new facility that matches the excellent care they have relied on from Dr. Desai,” he said.
“It is a good time to retire,” said Dr. Desai, who has practiced in Warren for 30 years.
“Akron Children’s is the perfect partner for all of us. Our families will have access to the latest advances in pediatric care and resources such as electronic medical records that they can securely access from home or a mobile app,” he said.
The support staff working with Dr. Desai will join Akron Children’s, and there will be several new hires, including medical providers Dr. Souheir Saker, nurse practitioners Dayne Adkins and Allison Lantz, Teske said.
Walk-in patients will be accepted several hours each weekday, as well as scheduled appointments. A full range of primary care for babies, children and teens will be offered, including well-child visits; routine checkups; immunizations; sports, school and camp physicals; treatment for illness and injury, and chronic-disease management. Medicaid and most insurance plans will be accepted.
Patients needing lab, radiology or specialty clinics, such as cardiology, endocrinology, neurology, orthopedic or urology, can receive these services at Akron Children’s specialty office at The Marketplace, 5000 E. Market St., Suite 29.
Also, Akron Children’s recently took over operation of St. Joseph Warren Hospital’s five-bed pediatric unit and its new six-bed special-care nursery.
Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month, provides pediatric primary care for babies, children and teens to many Northeast Ohio communities through 23 pediatrician offices, each staffed with board-certified pediatricians, Teske said.
