CANFIELD

A monthly How To Home Canning series will be offered this month through September by Mahoning County’s Ohio State University Extension office and its family and consumer sciences educator.

The series will teach participants about the proper equipment, rules to follow to ensure safe and quality preserved products, and how to use a water-bath canner.

The class is appropriate to those who are new to home canning. It will provide a basic overview but can also provide a refresher to experienced home canners.

Participants may also have their pressure canners tested for safety and dial-gauge pressure canners tested for accuracy before the programs.

The public classes will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in McMahon Hall at Mill Creek Metroparks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road. The dates and areas of focus will be: June 24, jams and jellies; July 30, canning basics; Aug. 12, canning tomatoes; and Sept. 16, drying and dehydrating.

Cost is $15 per session or $50 for all four sessions.

Drop off or mail registration to OSU Extension, Mahoning County, 490 S. Broad St. Canfield, OH 44406. Participants also can register and get further information by calling 330-533-5538.
