About the church

The motto of Youngstown Metro Church, 801 Wick Ave., Youngstown, is “Making missionaries for God’s glory to the nations.” It is a Southern Baptist congregation. Some activities follow.

Leaders: Andrew Chamberlin, lead pastor, lived in Spain with his parents, who were missionaries. He graduated from Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va., with a master’s of business administration and bachelor’s in religion and is working on a master of divinity. His wife, Michelle, leads Metro’s children’s ministry. She also graduated from Liberty University with a bachelor’s in psychology and master of arts in teaching in elementary education. Tracie Fellows is financial secretary. Elders are Jesse Fellows, Nathan Stauffer and Shane Pelanda.

Missions: The church believes in the global advancement of the Gospel. Members work in local neighborhoods, an inner- city mission in New Orleans and mission trips to foreign countries. Monetary donations being accepted for the current mission trip in July to Nepal.

Small groups: The church organizes small groups that meet in 12-week blocks. Topics change and currently include healthy living, Daniel, creativity, 1 John and Principles of the Path.

PUSH: Pray Until Something Happens takes place at 7 p.m. the third Monday of the month at the church as members gather to pray for the church, city and world. Next gathering is June 15.

Potter’s House: This ministry reaches out to those who struggle with an addiction such as drugs, alcohol, pornography or food. Meetings are at 6:30 p.m. Fridays at the church.

Metro Talks: “Open Road” is the theme of the gathering planned from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 1. Testimonies will be shared. Breakfast and lunch will be provided; tickets are $15.

Men’s retreat: The gathering will be from 6 p.m. June 26-10:30 a.m. June 28 at Stafuffer Camp in St. Petersburg, Pa. Cost is $25.
