Taft students to visit city businesses

YOUNGSTOWN

Third-grade students from Taft Elementary School will take a walking tour of some city businesses today. Students will visit The Vindicator, America Makes and 21 WFMJ-TV.

Students will have lunch sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Youngstown. The tour is part of the Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley’s I Can Save program.

Ohio agency awards $50K grant for study

YOUNGSTOWN

The city of Youngstown, in partnership with the Mahoning Valley Manufacturers’ Coalition, OH-Penn Collaborative, Youngstown State University, Eastern Gateway Community College and career and technical centers, recently received a $50,000 grant from the Ohio Development Services Agency.

The funding will go toward a feasibility study for a Youngstown-Mahoning Valley Manufacturing Training Center.

The center will enable a variety of programs to take place within a shared lab and facility for students at various educational institutions.

MYCAP sets dates, times for program

The Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership, 1325 Fifth Ave., has scheduled the dates and times of its information sessions for its Workforce Development Program of 2015.

The sessions are from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Allegiant: 14 percent rise in passengers

Allegiant Travel Co., the only commercial airliner to operate at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, reported a nearly 14 percent increase in its number of passengers from May 2014 to May 2015; 15.6 percent increase in revenue- passenger miles; and an 18.7 percent increase in departures.

Rust Belt makers to meet in Canfield

The Rust Belt Made Makers Market, a pop- up event created by a collective of friends and makers, will take place at Stone Fruit Coffee Co., 410 W. Main St., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday. The event will feature like-minded Rust Belt makers, artisans and local industrious businesses.

Retail space open in Warren building

WARREN

Warren Redevelopment and Planning is creating Shops on the Square, a cooperative retail space, at 124 N. Park Ave.

The former radio-station building is being transformed into eight retail shops between 80 and 168 square feet, rented for $100 to $250 per month.

WRAP is encouraging businesses such as start-ups, artists and prepackaged-food manufacturers to consider renting the space.

The building has room for seven more tenants, who will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. For information, call 330-841-2566.
