Road closing

NORTH LIMA

Beginning June 15, Western Reserve Road over Interstate 680 will be closed through early September for a bridge replacement.

The detour will be state Route 7 (Market Street) to state Route 626 to state Route 164. Exit and entrance ramps at the interchange will remain open.

The work is part of an $8.9 million Ohio Department of Transportation project to replace the Western Reserve Road bridge over I-680 and resurface I-680 from U.S. Route 224 to the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

ODOT will distribute brochures to businesses along Western Reserve between Springfield and Tippecanoe roads from 10 a.m. to noon Monday. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in October.

Pleads no contest

GIRARD

Jadanai S. Priest, 39, of North Street Northwest in Warren, pleaded no contest Wednesday to two reduced misdemeanor counts of attempt to commit an offense attempting to defraud Farmer’s National Bank.

She initially was charged in January 2013 with passing bad checks and theft by deception, both felonies, in relation to crimes at the Farmers National Bank office at 121 N. State St.

Judge Jeff Adler of Girard Municipal Court sentenced her Wednesday to three years’ probation and a fine of $200.

She still faces charges of forgery and theft in Mahoning County Area Court in Austintown. Authorities have accused her of forging a check and cashing it for $1,983 in December 2012 at Farmers National Bank, 22 N. Canfield-Niles Road in Austintown.

Facing charges

BOARDMAN

A Youngstown man faces multiple charges after he was pulled over by township police.

Raymond Maggianetti, 37, of Willow Street, is charged with operating a vehicle while impaired, possession of drug-abuse instruments and possession of an open container. He also was arrested on a Boardman theft warrant and cited for failure to obey a traffic-control device.

The charges stem from a traffic stop late Wednesday at Market Street and Woodrow Avenue. Police say they found a syringe, an open bottle of vodka and other drug-abuse instruments in his vehicle.

He was released on a summons and was scheduled to appear in court Thursday evening.

Woman cited

YOUNGSTOWN

A woman was cited for failure to control after reports said she drove her van into an abandoned building about 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1600 block of McGuffey Road. Reports said Tyneshia Jones, 39, was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to be examined for any injuries. Reports said Jones was driving south on Bennington Avenue when she lost control of the van.

Bill introduced

COLUMBUS

Ohio Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd, and state Sen. Lou Gentile of Steubenville, D-30th, introduced legislation to strengthen penalties for those found guilty of purposefully causing harm to a child under age 13.

Current law authorizes a minimum sentence of two to three years, depending on the degree of assault. The bill would impose an additional mandatory prison term of one to five years, with judges deciding the length of sentences within that range. “Any case concerning children’s safety deserves priority consideration,” Schiavoni said.
